Day 4 - Literacy

Year 2 have had an amazing start to 2015. Today we have been doing many literacy activities -  defining the details, writing with adjectives and reading. We spoke about ways we will reflect on our learning and how positive feedback is given.

Today was also our first assembly for infants. Year 2 were so excited to meet the new Kindergartens.

The following are some of our writing from today based on a short movie "Once upon a Lifetime" from the Literacy Shed.

"There was a man on a boat. A turtle flew past him. He ran to the front of the boat and tied it to one of the turtles. His ship was broken so he thought that it was the best idea to jump on the baby turtle." - Jasmine

"Once upon a time there was a man in a boat. His telescope fell off and his ship was not working. He saw flying turtles so he tied his boat to the neck of a turtle. The rope broke so he jumped on the back of a flying turtle." - James

"Once upon a time there was a man in a boat. There were flying turtles around him. Then he jumped on one of the flying turtles. He was happy to be going home." - Abbie

"The man was pulling on his ship and then the engine fell off. Flying turtles came by. He ran to the front of the boat and he lassoed the turtle. The turtule made the boat move. Then the rope snapped. He then heard a sound. It was the sound of a small turtle. He jumped on the turtle and got home." - Oskar

Day 3 Bubbling with Energy

Today has been packed with fun learning, games and reflection on our holidays. We have been blessed to be able to play many of the Year 2 maths games, spend some time building in our Lego station and learning that "Graphemes are Letters and Phonemes are Sounds". This afternoon we have discovered even artwork can be made from bubbles. The quote of the day has been "Year 2 learning is so much fun and we haven't even used the technology yet!" - Student.

Day 2 Perfectly Imperfect!

With many of the nerves gone today we have been able to get down to some work. In sport we continued to work on our understanding about being perfectly imperfect with some group initiative games. Many of us were challenged by the all tied up game and mute line-up. Through these we learnt that we often need practice to succeed and most people don't just get a skill the first time they try. The 'Not Perfect Hat Club' has been a lot of fun today, we hope you enjoy sharing this with us!

Welcome to Year 2!

Happy start to the day!

Day 1 We are all a bit Nervous but that is Perfectly Okay!

This morning we welcomed the new cohort of Year 2 students. As they entered the were faced with a room full of fun, Lego, drawing and books. Many of the students who were nervous found these feelings quickly fell away. We learnt that we are "Perfectly Imperfect" and as learners we need to put on our 'Not Perfect Hats' and keep on trying. Mr Coote visited and explained how as a learner he FAIL's often but this is First Attempt In Learning.

We look forward to a wonderful Day One and we are excited about what we are going to learn and explore.
